TABULA: The Tradition of Amalfi Paper Through Artisanship
We at TABULA also contributed to the project, bringing our experience as an artisan workshop located in the heart of Amalfi, which, through its handcrafted creations and artistic work on Amalfi paper, helps define a distinctive aspect of the region’s identity every day.
An article that highlights an important aspect of Amalfi’s paper-making tradition: its ability to endure not only through paper production and the preservation of historical memory, but also through the objects that continue to take shape today thanks to the work of artisans.
From the care taken in bookbinding to artistic creations involving painting, right down to the finer details of the finishes and the use of a wax seal, every step of the process reflects a mastery of craftsmanship that combines tradition, creativity, and attention to detail.

The Special Mention awarded to the Municipality of Amalfi represents a significant achievement for the entire community and for the organizations that contribute daily to promoting its paper-making tradition.
The “Amalfi Carta Viva” project demonstrates how collaboration between institutions, businesses, and artisans can help tell the story of and preserve a heritage that continues to be an integral part of the city’s identity.
We are extremely proud of this recognition and of having contributed to it through our experience and the tangible example of the craftsmanship that takes shape every day in our workshop. Preserving a tradition also means continuing to practice it, interpret it, and pass it on through new objects and new creations.
